Tito's Tacos -- A Culver City Institution -- Gets a Touch-up

On Saturday morning, Tito's Tacos -- the pride of Culver City since 1959 -- got a bit of a facelift. Nothing major, just something to make the sign bright and snappy.

If you don't recognize Tito's from these pictures, it's because this is what it…

No Carmageddon Traffic in Culver City

I thought that if there was one place in Culver City that might be affected by traffic backing up on the 405, it might be this intersection of Washington Pl. and Sepulveda Blvd. But nope. As of 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, all is well. As this picture shows, there seems to be less traffic, if anything.

Good job, Los Angelinos! Maybe we're not as dependent on our…

Portion of Ballona Creek bike path closed through Wednesday for improvements

Last week I was riding the newest part of the Ballona Creek Bike Path with my wife, starting at Kronenthal Park, and heading all the way to the ocean.

While happy to see the section opened after it as closed for years, it was disappointing how rough the path was where it was repaired with asphalt and all the graffiti. Especially when you compare this sections to the beautiful…

Where Am I in Culver City? Game 008

Each friday at 6:00 pm, I'll post a picture of something in Culver City that is 'hiding in plain sight.'

This time, it's this swirl of cloth and metal. This one may be tricky. It's not exactly on a main street, but I think if you have seen it, you'd remember it. Do you know where it is?

If you recognize it, enter your response in the…

A Stunning Look at "Mud Lake Culver City" in the 1950s

Appropriate for the 4th of July: Fun in the sun at 'Mud Lake in Culver City', circa 1957.

Uploader 'cgds' explains: "Water skiing at Mud Lake. This is in the same area where the Marina is today. Taken maybe around 1957, the first skier to come to shore is my brother, Dean, and the close up shot is of Mike Sanders. Dick Ireland's family has…

Slideshow of Giggle and Pop Performing at the Culver City Artwalk

Gary Baseman's "Giggle and Pop!" performed at ARTWALK Culver City. I'm so sorry I missed them. They look like they were having fun!

According to creator Gary Baseman, the ChouChous (those figures in pink) take away negative energy and hate (and, incidently, excretes it as creamy, gooey love...uh...yuk?). The ChouChous were performed by the…

Fireworks in Culver City and Los Angeles

Despite the fact that fireworks are banned in Los Angeles and many of its sister cities, they really know how to do the Fourth of July right.

My wife loves firework displays. In LA alone, we've seen fireworks from the Colorado St. bridge in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl show and from the deck of a home in the Palos Verdes hills watching the panorama from Carson's Home Depot to San Pedro's Queen Mary. We watched the Culver City show with neighbors from a…
