AT&T Outlines Network Upgrades, Community Support

AT&T to Add More Mobile Broadband Capacity and 4G Service

AT&T today announced recent network upgrades in the Culver City area and unveiled its plans on network enhancements for its Culver City customers and local businesses that will provide faster speeds, increased reliability and best-in-class wireless service in 2011.

The network enhancements include a recently upgraded cell site near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Culver Boulevard.  It is a high-capacity site which will provide customers in the area better coverage inside buildings and a higher level of call quality.  The cell site is one of 10 cell sites in the Culver City area that have been recently upgraded with additional capacity to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband in the area.

“AT&T’s continued commitment and investment into our communications infrastructure is an immense benefit to Culver City businesses,” said Steve Rose, President of the Culver City Chamber of Commerce.  “The network upgrades will make a positive impact in our day-to-day activities as we conduct business and communicate with our family and friends.”

AT&T has also deployed 4G to its mobile broadband network in Culver City.  When combined with enhanced Ethernet connectivity between the cell site and the wireless switch in Los Angeles later this year, the deployment will enable 4G wireless data speeds of up to four times faster than ordinary mobile broadband, enhancing the experience for customers and businesses who use the Internet or data-heavy applications on tablets, mobile devices or smartphones.

“We are investing in our Culver City network to help AT&T customers conduct business faster and more efficiently as well as to take advantage of the numerous capabilities of their smartphones and tablets,” said Angela Gibson, Director, AT&T External Affairs. “We are committed to providing our customers excellent service to meet their daily needs, and we are backing that up with the right network enhancements.”

AT&T’s advanced network provides several important advantages for customers.  Unlike some competitors, AT&T’s mobile-broadband network provides customers with the ability to talk and surf at the same time. For instance, you can look up directions to an event while still talking on the phone, or browse your favorite social media sites while chatting with a friend.  AT&T’s mobile broadband network also is up to 35 percent faster than our largest competitor’s CDMA-based network on average nationally.

AT&T provides access to voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in more than 200 countries, and covers 97% of Americans (based on licensed and roaming areas). AT&T’s largest competitor’s CDMA-based devices work in fewer than 45 countries.  Business Traveler magazine recently named AT&T as having the “Best Mobile Coverage in the World” – the fourth time AT&T has received the distinction.

AT&T also operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network with more than 23,000 hotspots in the U.S., including several in Culver City.  Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly
data plans.
