At the June 4, Culver City Council Meeting, City Manager John Nachbar introduced Rick Sklarz, of Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates, who shared the results from a survey they conducted of Culver City voters.

Two-thirds (68%) of respondents indicated that they believed Culver City needs additional funds to maintain essential city services, and -- prior to hearing any information about the city’s finances -- two-thirds vote in favor a half-cent sales tax to provide the funding to maintain general fund city services. Support for the ballot measure increased and intensified as voters are provided with information, especially how funds are needed to retain essential city services, offset state takings and protect Culver City’s revitalization. When asked about a three-quarter cent sales tax, support for the measure drops considerably

How do you feel about a .5 percent sales tax increase, with all proceeds being locally?

The survey also discovered that:

• Voters give their city very high marks with most thinking Culver City is “headed in the right direction”, well-managed, safe and has greatly improved over the past decade.
• Voters prioritize 9-1-1, police and fire services, but they also regard maintaining services for seniors, parks, and after school programs as important uses of funds.
