The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Daniel Lee, a local activist, Culver City Committee Member, and volunteer mentor who narrowly lost his first bid for the Culver City Council in 2016 has announced his campaign for City Council in next year’s 2018 election.
The new campaign has already received the support of two-term Culver City Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City Vice Mayor Thomas Small, former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle, and current School Board Member Dr. Kelly Kent. Lee is expected to add many more endorsements and supporters as his campaign progresses.
Daniel Lee has been an activist and volunteer for nearly 15 years, including serving as a member of the Culver City Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee for the last 7 years, and as a volunteer mentor at El Rincon Elementary School since 2005. He is currently Project Manager for the James Lawson Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to organizing movements for social change throughout North America, and has served on the national board of directors for Move to Amend since 2012. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the California Air National Guard. He has a bachelor’s degree from USC, and a master’s degree in social work from UCLA.
“I believe a city should reflect the views and values of its citizens, and that governing institutions should represent the opinions, issues, and concerns of the people,” Lee said on his decision to run. “It’s time, Culver City – time to make changes that will make a difference.”
Lee’s campaign is built on three fundamental beliefs: protect the environment, encourage economic fairness, and ensure government accountability.
Daniel Lee’s campaign is holding a Campaign Kickoff Event at the home of Culver City School Board Member Dr. Kelly Kent on Sunday, November 19 at 4pm – 4204 Lafayette Place, Culver City, CA 90232. All Culver City residents and anyone else who is interested, is invited to meet the candidate and share their perspectives on issues facing Culver City now and in the future.
