DANIEL LEE TO HOLD CITY COUNCIL CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF NOVEMBER 19th

City Council candidate Daniel Lee, a local activist and Culver City Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee Member, will launch his campaign on Sunday, November 19th from 5-7 pm, at the home of Culver City School Board Member Kelly Kent – 4204 Lafayette Place. The event was originally scheduled at a different time but was changed. All Culver City residents and anyone who is interested are invited to come meet Daniel and share their views on issues facing Culver City now and in the future.

Daniel Lee’s campaign has already received the support of two-term Culver City Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City Vice Mayor Thomas Small, School Board Member Kelly Kent, and former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle.

"I'm proud to support Daniel Lee for City Council,” said Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells. I admire Daniel’s deep understanding of policy, and his dedication to serving our community and our country. Locally, he's worked for environmental protections, safe streets, and affordable housing. His national experience fighting for transparency, open government, and civil rights is also impressive. Daniel is uniquely qualified to serve our city."

Lee narrowly lost his first bid to join the Culver City Council in 2016, but feels his campaign is in a much stronger position for next year’s 2018 election. “I learned so much in the first campaign, and have formed even stronger ties with the community,” Lee remarked. “Serving on the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee for the last seven years has been incredibly rewarding, and has added to my passion and commitment to help the people of Culver City.”

"Daniel and I share the belief that development should be sustainable, good for residents, and respectful of our neighborhoods,” noted Vice Mayor Thomas Small. "I appreciate his involvement in the community and his frequent participation in Council meetings. Daniel will be a leader who listens, as well as acts."

An activist and volunteer in the Culver City community for nearly 15 years, Lee has served as a volunteer mentor at El Rincon Elementary School since 2005. Since 2012, he has served on the national board of directors for Move to Amend, an organization working to amend the Constitution around Citizens United. He is a graduate of USC and UCLA, and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the California Air National Guard.

Daniel Lee’s campaign is built on three fundamental beliefs: protect the environment, encourage economic fairness, and ensure government accountability.
