Yasmine McMorrin Launches 2020 Campaign for Culver City Council at Free Event this Sunday, November 10th

Attorney and equity advocate Yasmine-Imani McMorrin is kicking-off her campaign for City Council this Sunday, Nov. 10, from 4pm to 7pm, at the home of Dr. Kelly Kent, Culver City School Board President – 4204 Lafayette Place, Culver City 90232.

Meet the candidate and hear her vision for Culver City! Please RSVP to attend here: tinyurl.com/y39ljuq9.

McMorrin has already received prominent endorsements from Culver City Mayor and two-term Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City Council Member Alex Fisch, Dr. Kent, and a growing crowd of supporters across the city. Come see what all the excitement is about!

As the Associate Director of Student Support at USC Gould School of Law, McMorrin develops programming for students to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. After work, she volunteers as Vice Chairperson of the Culver City General Plan Advisory Committee, a Member of the Culver City Unified School District Equity Strategic Planning Committee, and as Co-founder of the Culver City Community of Color Collective, an organization that supports children and families of color.

Yasmine also enjoys taking her daughter to soccer practice, and spending time with family and friends. She loves Culver City, and is dedicated to working hard for everyone in the community.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Spelman College, McMorrin went on to receive a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University, where she became President of Rutgers Law School's Association of Black Law Students. She is also a Member of the Governing Board of New Leaders Council--Los Angeles Chapter, a graduate of the Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute, and an American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Scholar.

“I would be honored to serve as a member of the City Council because I am committed to helping maintain the city’s quality of life for everyone, including our most vulnerable citizens,” stated McMorrin. “My vision as a Council Member is to ensure that as Culver City develops, we help everyone share in our progress.”

If elected, McMorrin would be the first African-American woman to serve on the City Council, a historic milestone that would further the city’s reputation for inclusive leadership.

Yasmine credits her mother and father for the strength and inspiration to run for public office. “My late father came to the U.S. from Jamaica, and became a Detective with the Newark Police Department. Growing up with his example of hard work, responsibility, and values drives my dedication to public service,” said McMorrin. “My mother and godmother also taught me how to advocate for myself and others, and how to balance my work life with the joys of being a mother.”

McMorrin’s campaign is focused on housing, sustainability, transportation, and government accountability, as well as raising civic engagement on local issues, especially among young people.

The candidate is looking forward to meeting more Culver City voters this Sunday, and hearing about the issues and concerns that are most important to everyone who lives, works, and plays in the wonderful city she calls home.
