NEW ENDORSEMENTS ADD TO SAHLI-WELLS RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

City Councilmember’s Candidacy Gathers Momentum in Lead-up to April 12th Vote

The impressive list of people and organizations endorsing Meghan Sahli-Wells’ re-election to the Culver City Council continues growing with each passing week as candidates enter the final two months of the campaign.

Sahli-Wells has already received endorsements from the Sierra Club and the LA League of Conservation Voters, which also endorsed her original bid for City Council in 2012. Both organizations continue to be impressed by Sahli-Wells’ consistent environmental record.

“Councilmember Meghan Sahli-Wells has been a strong environmental advocate and a thoughtful and effective leader for Culver City,” said LALCV President Tom Eisenhauer. “On the City Council, she has been an extraordinary force for pro-environment priorities vital to quality of life in Culver City – like water conservation, active transportation, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and comprehensive oil drilling regulations.”

United States Representative Karen Bass and California State Senator Holly Mitchell also gave Sahli-Wells their considerable endorsements.

"Meghan Sahli-Wells has shown true leadership in her four years on the City Council,” said Congressmember Bass. “I have had the pleasure of working with her on important issues affecting the health and wellbeing of our constituents, and I look forward to continued collaboration in the future."

Sahli-Wells recently received the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, on the same evening all seven candidates attended a forum organized by the Tellefson Park Neighborhood Association. She garnered the endorsement of the Culver City Democratic Club (CCDC) the next day, based on a vote of its members, following a CCDC forum with the four Democratic candidates.

The campaign also received an endorsement from the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) LA-Westside Chapter, which supported her 2012 candidacy, and honored Sahli-Wells as a "Remarkable Woman of 2011" at its NWPC awards gala, alongside Senator Holly Mitchell, Attorney General Kamala Harris and others.

Councilmember Sahli-Wells is only the fifth woman to be elected to the City Council in Culver City’s 99-year history. Along with being the only incumbent in the current race for City Council, she is also the only woman running for a seat on the Council.

Sahli-Wells’ candidacy got a jump-start at a very successful kick-off event in December, with over 100 people attending the campaign launch at the home of supporters Bonnie & Matt Seeberger. Her first fundraiser was also a great success, with over 80 attendees, who were treated to inspiring speeches by Chris Wilde, the grandson of Culver City Founder Harry Culver, as well as veteran arts advocate Keith Jeffries, School Board member Dr. Kelly Kent, and others.

There are more opportunities to hear City Council candidates speak at upcoming community forums:

  • Raintree Townhouse Association – February 23, 7pm
  • Ask 2 Know Kid's Forum – West LA College, March 2, 7pm
  • Culver Crest Neighborhood Association – El Rincon Elementary, March 10, 7pm
  • League of Women Voters – City Hall (filmed), March16, 6:30p

In-person voting for the Culver City Council election will be held April 12th. Vote-by-Mail ballots will be sent beginning March 14th. Don't forget to vote!
