McMorrin Racks Up Endorsements in Culver City Council Race

Eighteen leading groups endorse Yasmine McMorrin, more than any other candidate

Less than one month before the Culver City Council election on November 3rd, Yasmine McMorrin’s campaign continues to gain momentum. The candidate attracted many new endorsements from organizations in September, as well as prominent leaders like U.S. Congresswoman Karen Bass, and California State Senator Holly J. Mitchell.

McMorrin’s endorsers include: Los Angeles County Democratic Party, Culver City Democratic Club, Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, Heart of Los Angeles Democratic Club, National Women's Political Caucus - LA Westside, Stonewall Democratic Club, SEIU United Healthcare Workers West, California Young Democrats, Culver City Community Coalition, Westside Young Democrats, Food & Water Action, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, Black Los Angeles Young Democrats, Southwest Carpenters Union, Los Angeles African American Women Political Action Committee, Streets for All, California Democratic Renters Council, and Bike The Vote L.A.

McMorrin’s campaign has drawn dozens of volunteers, and hundreds of local supporters, as well as early endorsements from Culver City Vice Mayor Alex Fisch, Council Members Daniel Lee and Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City School Board President Summer McBride, and School Board Member Dr. Kelly Kent.

Asked why her campaign is backed by so many groups and individuals, McMorrin says she believes it’s because her goals are guided by the principles of equity and inclusion.

“Culver City voters want a local government that acts on the most important values we share as a community, especially during a time when the winds of change are blowing,” said McMorrin. “Equity and inclusion are at the center of everything I do, and will direct my service as a member of the Culver City Council, should I be elected.”

Yasmine McMorrin works as Interim Dean of Students and Director of Diversity at USC’s Gould School of Law. She serves as Vice Chairperson of the Culver City General Plan Advisory Committee, and is a Member of the Culver City Unified School District Equity Strategic Planning Committee.

If elected, McMorrin would be the first African-American woman to serve on the Culver City Council, and only the sixth woman elected to the Council in the city’s more than 100 years.

Connect with Yasmine, the candidate’s online series, continues on Tuesday, October 6th, at 6:00pm, with her guest, Culver City Council Member and Former Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells.

McMorrin’s next virtual “Office Hours,” when voters can speak directly with the candidate, will be offered 5:00pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, October 8.

On Saturday, October 10th, McMorrin is hosting a special 45-minute Yoga for Yasmine fundraiser at 9:00am with yoga instructor Anissa Folley.
