Will the Expo Line Parking Lot in Culver City Soon Be a Sea of Mud?

As one of the happy legion who take the Expo Line from Culver City to downtown Los Angeles, I have tried to be patient with the Culver City parking lot. I understand that the city has probably been reluctant to invest much money in improving the lot, since construction is supposedly eminent on a mixed-use development that will transform the lot. But now months and have passed, and there's no construction in evidence. Meaning that anyone who uses the beautiful new Expo Line from Culver City has been required to park in what is essentially a cruddy dirt lot.

Through the summer, I suffered through my car being coated in dust each day. But now that the rainy season has come, I begin to have real worries that on wet days I'm going to sink into mud up to my socks as I try to make my way from my car to the train.

Are there other Expo riders out there who have the same worries? And is there anything that can or should be done about it?

great for auto carpet during the rains. Geez. I drove up there to see what you guys were talking about. How ridiculous! you cant even see the road in places. backroad is an accurate assessment.

I loved it during the rain, it was nice to drive on a dust free lot. Since it is compacted dirt, it's as if you're driving on wet unpaved backroad.

What was the lot like during last week's rain storms?

Great share, Stephen. Thanks so much.

I was thinking the same thing the first time I saw the parking lot after 2 weeks of opening. At least Expo plans to repave it. I found this contract come out for Repaving and it explains why it was in shambles:

Hmm maybe driving over to the covered lot on la cienega is a temporary solution

Is this the city's responsibility or is it Metro's?  Culver City is very responsive to it's community's needs - it may be that there is more to it than meets the eye.

I've actually been wondering about this myself (not the mud-level but the status of the lot). I seem to remember a brand spanking newly resurfaced lot just prior to the opening this year. In less than 3 months, the lot was already torn to shreds. What gives? Is the brother-in-law factor at play here?
