2020 FIRST PLACE AMERICAN PRIZE-WINNER LOS ANGELES DOCTORS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AWAKENS FROM HIBERNATION
The absence of live performances during the past 21 months left a void that impacted our personal, professional, and artistic lives. The award-winning Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra (www.ladso.org) awakens from the constraints of COVID to return to the stage and, once again, enrich our communities through the healing power of music. This is not only a testimonial to our resilience but an affirmation that, hopefully, most of the tempus horribilis is behind us. Today’s concert, including fanfares, a serenade, and a tribute to flight, celebrates this awakening.
PROGRAM: “AWAKENING,” a concert that features Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man; Paul Dukas’s Fanfare to “La Péri”; Richard Strauss’s Serenade for Winds in E-flat major, Op. 7; Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus’; and Ottorino Respighi’s Gli Uccelli (The Birds).
DATE AND LOCATION: Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 8 PM. Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 4117 Overland Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230
ADMISSION: $20 payable at www.ladso.org or at the door. Children 18 -13 years of age free. Children 12 years of age or under cannot be admitted.
PARKING: Free
THE LOS ANGELES DOCTORS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, now in its 68th season, led by Maestro Ivan Shulman, is one of the oldest community orchestras in the United States. Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable concerts to the diverse communities of Southern California, to support important medical causes, to support volunteer musicians, including youth, in their pursuit of the joys and discipline found in musical expression, to support emerging professional musicians, and to provide musical growth and fellowship for its performing members.
Audience members must show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the performance. Masks without valves (no scarves) that cover the nose and mouth are required. If you feel ill, please stay home. Children 12 years of age and under cannot be admitted.
This concert is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture and by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Culver City Arts Foundation.
