Event Description

LOS ANGELES: reDiscover Center, the non-profit tool training and makerspace for children, is hosting a fundraiser to support summer camp scholarships for disadvantaged youth in the Los Angeles area. The event will take place on October 21 at reDiscover Center, 12958 West Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, in the Marina del Rey/Culver City/Venice area.

The fundraiser will provide summer camp scholarships for disadvantaged children. reDiscover offers week long summer tinkering programs for children ages 5-12 and the scholarship program supports foster, homeless, and low income youth. Last year, reDiscover provided 48 scholarships to the Tinkering School LA program, increasing participants' self-confidence and self-esteem by teaching the safe use of power tools and and facilitating large scale art, tinkering, and construction projects.

Hosted by board members Lynne Brodhead Clark and Aaron Kramer, the fundraiser will include hands-on power tools demonstrations, art activities, and refreshments donated by Kustaa, Pitfire Pizza, and other local businesses. There will also be a silent auction for one of a kind items and hand crafted projects made by reDiscover staff, campers, and local professional artists.

Tickets are available at
http://rediscovercenter.org/fundraiser and are tax deductible donations.

About reDiscover Center

With “rediscovered” materials at the core of its programs, reDiscover offers Tinkering School LA camps, School Services, daily drop-in activities at the reDiscover Center in Venice, and private workshops to children ages 3-18 and adults. reDiscover works with community partners to bring tinkering education to over 10,000 children per year, notably schools, libraries, and non-profits throughout Los Angeles County.
