World-renowned Dancer/Choreographer Danielle Agami and Ate9 Dance Company, “one of Los Angeles’ hottest cultural commodities” (FJORD Review), presents mouth to mouth, a wildly entertaining and mesmerizing dance performance being held at the Moss Theater in Santa Monica, Ca., on Oct 11 and 12.
mouth to mouth is a performance about human exchange, a social experiment in the comfort of intimacy, the need to communicate, and deep-seated desire to connect. Originally based on a set of dialogs, this amusingly abstract dance performance hailed as “odd, fleeting, and gorgeous” (Vancouver Straight), focuses on conversations based on everyday interactions between one and his surroundings, taking the audience on an interpretive journey set to an original score by Los Angeles-based composer Jodie Landau. Additional soundtracks include: I Got it Bad by Nina Simone, Kid A and The Gloaming by Radiohead, Apple Pie by Puerto Muerto, and Hodzah by Sfataim.
“In mouth to mouth Agami has woven together a disarming and beautifully crafted flow of ensembles small and large, as well as solo turns for several company dancers…while the movement can at times astonish you it also plays with an equal hand to subtle gestures and quiet pools of repose,” says Steven Woodruff of See Dance.
The eight-member dance ensemble is a collection of award-winning dancers from North America, handpicked by Agami for their versatility, individual flair, and technical finesse in the Gaga movement language, developed by one of Israel’s best known choreographers Ohad Naharin, which Agami has studied, performed, and taught all over the world. Agami, known for her distinctive style of contemporary dance, delicately balances explosive physicality and frenetic gesturing, with subtle movements that lend to an ethereal quality, possessing “the gift of turning awkwardness into something beautiful.” (Wendy Perron, dance critic)
Performers include: Danielle Agami, Sarah Butler, Ariana Daub, Thibaut Eiferman, Rebecah Goldstone, Sarah Lyman, Scott McCabe, and Genna Moroni.
