Event Description

The Culver City Cultural Affairs Foundation presents its third architectureTALKS, a fundraiser to benefit Veterans Memorial Auditorium, on Sunday, June 7th from 2 - 4 p.m. The event invites guests into the creative environment at wHY, one of Los Angeles’ most in-demand architecture and design firms, located in Culver City. A discussion that focuses on how architecture and design serves people in the 21st century will be presented alongside the firm’s recent work including Pomona College’s new Studio Art Hall, the Samurai exhibition at LACMA, and Project 120 in Chicago as well as other local, national and international projects.

“Architecture has become a very difficult thing for people to understand: it has actually become kind of self-obsessed…Our architecture is trying to get back to connecting with life,” states Kulapat Yantrasast, founding partner and creative director of wHY.

This behind-the-scenes look into the creative process at wHY is guided by Thomas Aujero Small, architectural writer and Culver City Cultural Affairs Commissioner, and Kulapat Yantrasast, founding partner and creative director of wHY, who will discuss how wHY enriches projects through design conversations and establishes new ideas through four workshops – buildings, grounds, objects and ideas, measuring success through impact on the environment, adaptability, and usability rather than a specific style or image.

The intimate event allows guests to sit at the desks of various experts -- artists, civic leaders, designers and curators -- and be completely immersed in the design environment. This event is complemented with a reception provided by Akasha.

architectureTALKS is a series of three site-specific architecture talks presented by internationally renowned practitioners based in Culver City.  The first two in the series included a conversation with award-winning architect Zoltan E. Pali, FAIA, founder and design principal of Studio Pali Fekete architects [SPF:a], in their offices and gallery space; and architect and founding partner of Ehrlich Architects, Steven Ehrlich, FAIA and Project Manager Whitney Wyatt, with special guest Gordon Davidson, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

The proceeds will benefit the technical enhancement of Veterans Memorial Auditorium with the intent of increasing public performances and film screenings in that venue.

COST:                         $35.00 per person.  Admission is tax deductible with proceeds to benefit the technical enhancement of Veterans Memorial Building Auditorium.

TICKETS:                   To purchase tickets, visit https://architecturetalks-wHY.eventbrite.com
