Culver City turns 100 and the city’s hip, historic downtown is the perfect place to kick off the year-long festivities with the Block Party of the Century! The neighborhood-wide, interactive celebration of creativity, community and cuisine features free entertainment with Culver City-based performing artists of all types — from A cappella singers to samba dancers, indie rock musicians to poets, comedians to gymnasts — filling the streets of downtown Culver City as they compete for the coveted people's choice ‘Culver Cup’ and $1000 grand prize. A myriad of fun activities for kids and families will include face painting, chalk art, musical explorations and more. A delicious mix of great food and drink will be available at the outdoor, ticketed ‘Taste of Culver City’ which will showcase Culver City as one of Southern California's premier destinations for exceptional dining. Culver City culinary stars, including Culver City culinary stars, including Akasha, City Tavern, California Pizza Kitchen, Essential Chocolate Desserts, Grilliant, Hanjip, Janga by Derrick’s Jamaican Cuisine, Kay n' Dave's, K-zo, LaRocco's Pizzeria, Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ, Meet in Paris, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Pieology, Rush Street, Sizzler, The Culver Hotel, Tub's Chilli, Wildcraft, Culver City newcomer Spinfish and more, will offer mouth-watering bites of yummy treats throughout the afternoon.
“I love this event because it exemplifies Culver City today: a vibrant hub bustling with artists, entrepreneurs, young families and longtime residents, all of whom are deeply committed to the community,” says Eric Sims, President of the Culver City Downtown Business Association and Director of Theater Operations for the Kirk Douglas Theatre. “By filling the streets with local talent, terrific food and family activities that engage and inspire, we’re celebrating this unique community built on 100 years of creativity and sharing its treasures with the world.”
