Kent Lauer, Master (Coldworking) Glass Lapidary

Please join the Culver City Rock and Mineral Club on May 9^th to welcome Kent Lauer for this month’s monthly program.  Kent Lauer has been working with glass for more than 30 years. And, although Kent is a university educated Geologist, what started as a fascination with glass soon became a career.  Early on, Kent learned lapidary processes, and how to “bevel” glass.  This intrigued him and he became determined to find out everything he could about pushing the limits of beveled glass.  Becoming dissatisfied with “off the shelf” lapidary equipment, Kent designed his own machines, that are now being manufactured by Covington Engineering.

Living in Southern California has given Kent many chances to work on glass for films, commercials, and celebrities.  He has been teaching beveling and dichroic glass sculpture both at glass shows and privately for over 25 years.

Kent has written articles for Glass Craftsman magazine and for Glass Patterns Quarterly, and he is currently working on a book entitled "Introduction to Coldworking" which is targeted for publication in the near future.

In Glass Craftsman Magazine, Beth Harrison wrote the following of Kent Lauer - Master Beveler:
