ZHANG PLAYS DVOŘÁK
featuring violinist, Yirou Ronnie Zhang
PROGRAM: The Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra is proud to feature 13 year old violin prodigy, Yirou Ronnie Zhang, in a performance of Dvořák’s lyrical Violin Concerto in A-minor, Op. 53. This is consistent with our mission which is, in part, to “support young musicians in their pursuit of the discipline and joys found in musical expression.” The program begins with the sumptuous and complex Symphony No. 3 in F-major, Op. 90 by Johannes Brahms.

OUR SOLOIST: Thirteen-year-old Yirou Ronnie Zhang, intrigued by violin at age 5, began her formal training at age 7 and has studied with Sam Fischer at the Colburn School of Performing Arts since 2016. Ms. Zhang has won top prizes in many competitions, including the Music Teachers Association of California VOCE Competition, the American String Teachers Association Solo Competition, and the Hong Kong International Violin Competition.
Ms. Zhang has accumulated extensive chamber music and orchestral experience while attending various music festivals, including the New York Summer Music Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts Advanced Violin Program, and the Montecito international Music Festival. As a participant with Junior Chamber Music Los Angeles, her trio was selected as an Honors Group in 2016 and 2017.
Ms. Zhang has performed in master classes of renowned professors including Glenn Dicterow, Aaron Rosand, Ida Kavafian, Paul Coletti, and Grigory Kalinovsky.
THE LOS ANGELES DOCTORS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (www.ladso.org), now in its 65th season, led by Maestro Ivan Shulman and in his 28th consecutive year as Music Director, is one of the oldest community orchestras in the United States. Its mission is to provide enrichment of the communities it serves through the healing power of music, to support medical causes, and to support both young and emerging professional musicians in their pursuit of the discipline and joys found in musical expression.
