“COMEBACK” – Celebrating 25thAnniversary of re-capturing the venerable America’s Cup”
Presented by California Yacht Club Staff Commodore Bill Petersen
California Yacht Club will bring to life the amazing historic recapturing of the America Cup by Skipper Dennis Conner six months after losing the trophy, which the New York Yacht Club had held for 132 years, to the Australian team in 1983. All the action of that event plus Conner’s facing and winning against Australia again in 1987, making him a National hero, recorded in a film produced by ESPN and North Sails will be discussed and presented at a CYC Marina del Rey Luncheon on September 27th.
CYC Staff Commodore Bill Petersen, who was the in-house sailmaker (WeBe G Sails), will be on hand to give his personal insight into the two year campaign to bring the cup home. Spending a year in Hawaii testing five 12 Meter Yachts and then on to Perth, Australia to bring home the cup.
