Event Description
The Horace Mann Upstander Awards are given yearly to celebrate authors who publish fictional stories that encourage activism on the part of the protagonist. This year The Summer of Owen Todd by Tony Abbott is the winner of the book award and Mordecai Gerstein is the Life Time Achievement Award winner for his commitment to activism and particularly for his latest book, The Boy and the Whale. The authors will discuss writing stories that encourage "upstander behavior" and will receive their awards from Antioch University Los Angeles. A Q & A and book signing session will follow the presentation. For ages 10 to adult. Free
