Antioch University LA Welcomes Wren T. Brown to Board of Trustees

Acclaimed actor, producer and director will bring unique skills to the board

 

Culver City, CA - Antioch University Los Angeles (AULA) proudly welcomes new member, Wren T. Brown, to its board of trustees. The notable actor, producer and director will serve an initial three-year term on the 16-member board.

 

“I'm honored to serve on the board of trustees with such a dedicated group of men and women” said Brown. “I look forward to helping to further AULA's mission on campus and in the greater community.”

 

A lifelong Los Angeles resident, Brown grew up in a family with deep theatrical roots. His career in film, television and theater spans three decades. His many film credits include Waiting to Exhale, Hearts and Souls, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, The Importance of Being Earnest, and David Mamet's Edmond.

 

In television, he played a supporting role on the NBC comedy, Whoopi, with Whoopi Goldberg; starred opposite John Larroquette in Hallmark's McBride: Tune in for Murder and is the voice of Virgil Simpson on the long-running animated FOX sitcom, The Simpsons. He was a regular cast member  in Flipper: The New Adventures and CBS's Bless This House, and has appeared in recurring or guest roles on numerous popular sitcoms and dramas, including  - Grey's Anatomy, The Practice, Eli Stone, Everybody Hates Chris, The West Wing, Frasier, Seinfeld, Charmed, and Star Trek: Voyager.

 

“The depth and breadth of Wren’s experience on stage and screen along with his work creating opportunities for others to excel make him an excellent addition to AULA’s advisory team,” said Dr. Tex Boggs, AULA’s president.

 

An accomplished stage actor, Brown won the prestigious Drama Logue Award for his performance in Shakespeare's As You Like It, and was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for his role in Jeffrey's Plan. Known for his deep, rich and resonant voice, he's worked extensively in commercial, voice-over and spoken word projects. Brown was chosen by pianist Billy Childs to recite the classic Langston Hughes poem, The Negro Speaks of Rivers, on Childs' Grammy award-nominated album, I've Known Rivers.  He's narrated documentaries for the History Channel, the Learning Channel, and Entertainment Television's E! True Hollywood Story, and voiced Disney's Br'er Rabbit for various projects.

 

In his directorial debut, Brown directed 35 actors in Inspired By ...The Bible Experience, and won the 2007 Audie Award for Audio book of the Year – and for that project, also narrated the Book of Matthew.  Additionally, since 1999, he's produced several feature and short films and performance events.

 

In 2008, Brown founded the multi-award winning Ebony Repertory Theatre (ERT), the first African American professional theater company in Los Angeles, and serves as producer of the company's Nate Holden Performing Arts Center.

 

Previously he served on the boards of the Screen Actors Guild, Friends of Washington Prep High School, Charles R. Drew Medical School, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. In his free time, Brown, who lives with his wife and family in Los Angeles, enjoys researching his family history.
