Hidden Incredible Culver City Attractions To Consider Visiting

Culver City is unexpectedly rich with aviation, television and motion picture history. This is where Sony Pictures Studios started, then known as Metro Goldwyn Mayer. The Hughes Aircraft plant opened in the year 1941. Numerous blockbuster classic movies like Grease or Gone With The Wind were filmed at the studios.

Because of the huge history of Culver City, a lot of tourists kept visiting. This continued and led to the appearance of some pretty interesting attractions. Below you can find some that are lesser-known, according to data by Travel Tipsor.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

This is an urban retreat that gives tourists stunning city views. You can access it through concrete stairs and hiking trails. Although the ascent is steep, the view is much more than worth the effort. You can see the LA Basin, the surrounding mountains and even the Pacific Ocean. Make sure you visit the visitor center. There are history exhibits there that are great for enthusiasts, talking about the area and the city. You cannot take pets with you and parking will cost you but you do want to visit.

Cognoscenti Coffee

Locally known as Third Wave Coffee, Cognoscenti Coffee is highly reputable because of the delicious drinks available. You can enjoy coffee coming from various highly regarded roasters around the US. The coffee shop is quite small and angular in shape but you will love it since coffee is wonderful and there are some extra sweets and pastries available from Proof Bakery. If you love coffee, this is a Culver City destination you do not want to miss.

Blind Barber

If you want a brand new great haircut or even a cocktail, Blind Barber should be taken into account. This is a barber shop that does take you back in time because of how it is designed. You can see various elements of the past, like trimmings from the Prohibition-era or a dance floor. As you surely expect, you get all the barber services you would expect from haircuts to beard trimming. The beverages are actually complimentary but be sure you do not visit during Sundays since the bar will be closed.

Jackson Market

Locally named “The Secret Garden”, this is a deli that is 80 years old placed right on a populated residential street. You can choose some pancakes, egg dishes and crepes for breakfast. If you go for lunch, expect salads, wraps and sandwiches, all with meats right from the deli. Combine this with some great French bread, local produce and fresh cheese. Back patio is where you want to stay as it is beautifully designed, with a koi pond and a waterfall. It is a perfect place to have a meal.

Kirk Douglas Theatre

Last but not least, this rather intimate and new part of the Center Theatre Group is a 317 seater you will love. It was originally built in the year 1947 and it was renovated for around $8 million. Exterior is preserved, including a signature mezzanine tile and the box office. Nowadays, various plays are performed, all offering a highly intimate audience.
