MEGHAN SAHLI-WELLS MAKES IT OFFICIAL!

The Culver City Council candidate submitted election documents at City Hall on Tuesday following a standing room only campaign launch event on Sunday.

Meghan Sahli-Wells filed papers on Tuesday that will place her name on the ballot for Culver City Council. The longtime community volunteer is running for one of four Council seats up for election on April 10, 2012.

Sahli-Wells announced her candidacy at a “Campaign Kick-off” on Sunday, January 8. The event packed the Gregg Fleishman Studio in downtown Culver City, where more than 110 supporters heard U.S. Representative Karen Bass, School Board President Karlo Silbiger, Downtown Neighborhood Association founder Judy Miller, CCUSD Environmental Sustainability Committee member Shea Cunningham and others praise Meghan’s public service and community leadership.

“This is an incredible crowd for a great person,” said Representative Karen Bass. “I am happy to be here, and happy to help her and support her and endorse her.”

“My platform is based on three main issues: fiscal responsibility, smart development and sustainability,” Meghan told the throng of supporters. “We’ve spent the last few years tightening the budget, and we don’t want to lose the services that have made Culver City such a great place to live. So what we have to do is maximize the resources that we do have.”

Meghan’s first campaign fundraiser will be held at Culver City’s La Dijonaise restaurant on Wednesday, February 1  at 7 PM. The event is $50 per person and includes a three-course meal with a dessert, beverage and glass of wine. La Dijonaise is located at 8703 Washington Blvd. Please RSVP by emailing contact@vote4meghan.com.

Numerous current officials, representatives and community leaders have already endorsed Meghan’s candidacy, including U.S. Representative Karen Bass, Culver City Council member, former Mayor Christopher Armenta, and all five members of the Culver City School Board: President Karlo Silbiger and School Board Members Katherine Paspalis, Patricia Siever, Laura Chardiet and Nancy Goldberg.

“I cannot imagine a better advocate for Culver City residents,” said School Board Member Nancy Goldberg.

Sahli-Wells was awarded “Democrat of the Year” in 2010 by the L.A. County Democratic Party, and was recognized by the National Women’s Political Caucus (L.A. Westside chapter) in 2011 as one of twelve “Remarkable Women” alongside Attorney General Kamala Harris and Assembly members Holly Mitchell and Betsy Butler. Meghan was also recently elected to serve as First Vice President of the Culver City Democratic Club.

This is very exciting news! I hope that you will have some public statements about the proposed development of 4436 Sepulveda Boulevard. That is a key issue for me right now.
