New Los Angeles Brand Let's Shoppers Design Locally Handcrafted Wooden Sunglasses with Nonprofit Emphasis

Maverick Eyewear, a Culver City brand that handcrafts customized wooden frame sunglasses, announced their grand opening on September 3, 2015. The company prides itself on handcrafting wooden sunglasses designed by customers and demonstrates a radical small-business commitment to supporting select charities by bringing funding and awareness to critical causes.

This is the only brand in which customers design their own individualized, unique wooden sunglasses. “Maverick Eyewear is re-defining one of the world’s most popular fashion accessories”, says co-founder and CEO of Maverick Eyewear, Kristin McMullin. “Eyewear frames have been limited to metal and cellulose acetate (type of plastic) by monopolistic companies like Italy’s Luxottico, which controls over 80% of the world’s major eyewear brands. By empowering individuals to design sunglasses that reflect their personal style, Maverick Eyewear is breaking the standard of generic fashion and re-claiming self-expression through the beauty of natural hardwoods and American craftsmanship.”

Fashion blogger, artist, and designer Lizzie Wright comments, "Once we had the chance to try them out in person, there was no doubt that these unconventional shades live up to their name; refined craftsmanship and a simple form accentuate the seamless connection of natural elements. Best of all, you can make it your own with a choice of three distinct styles (Malibu, Manhattan, or Venice), seven polarized lens colors (campfire smoke, pacific blue, mojave gold, pine green, high octane orange, purple heart, or steel grey) and five types of gorgeous hardwood (birdseye maple, cherry, dark walnut, teak, zebra) – though it may be hard to choose." Read more.

In addition to being passionate about their handcrafted product line, Maverick Eyewear is also teaming up with charities that provide unorthodox solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the world today. To provide aid to international refugees, reform urban education through healthy eating, and prevent breast cancer, Maverick Eyewear will donate proceeds from each pair of handcrafted wooden sunglasses to three accredited nonprofits: International Rescue Committee, The Green Bronx Machine, and the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.

To generate immediate support for Breast Cancer prevention, Maverick Eyewear will include a free Maverick T-shirt with every purchase made in the month of October, 2015 (while supplies last). First-time customers also receive a 10% discount off their initial order. To shop now, visit www.MavEyewear.com
