Pierre CHAMBERS Looking Back "Songs of My Childhood"

This will be a fun evening w/ Pierre Chambers son of legendary bassist of Miles & -trane, Paul Chambers & a great rhythm section -

Pierre Lawrence Chambers - Jazz Vocalist "Music Heritage" ~

Pierre Chambers was Born June 7, 1957 in Brooklyn New York.  Pierre was born into a musical family; He is the son of legendary Jazz Bassist and musician extraordinaire Paul Chambers, best known as part of the Miles Davis Quintet.  Pierre grew up surrounded by the music of many of the giants of Jazz & cultivated an intense love of their music. He recalls w/ fondness listening to his father’s music & singing many of the songs along w/ the record.  He was the only child on his block that could scat to Sketches of Spain & Green & Blue Miles Davis Kind Of Blue.  Pierre’s mother, Annie Chambers was supportive and instrumental in shaping her son’s musical interests & education in Jazz culture & appreciation.

Pierre grew up in Detroit where early on he sang & studied acting in Junior High School.  He took up the saxophone & clarinet for a while & joined the school’s concert band & was the Drum Major of the school’s marching band from 1973 to 1975.  He also performed in repertory theater, sang in Church choirs & various other musical groups throughout his youth & into adulthood.

Pierre moved to New Jersey in 1982 & caught the attention of Lance Howard, leader of The Lance Hayward Singers a (J)azz vocal group. Pierre soon joined & performed with the group around the New York Tri-State area from 1985 to 1993.  Hayward, a Bermudian (J)azz piano player arranged musical compositions ranging from classical, show tunes, foreign, standards & (J)azz for his 24-voiced musical group.  Pierre sang w/ the group for 8 years performing 1st & 2nd tenor parts & a few solos.  The group sang & performed around New York City, each year the group performed a much-loved Christmas Special & once traveled to Bermuda to perform & celebrate Lance’s accomplishments for which he was being honored.

Also, while living on the East Coast Pierre met Bill Lee, father of Spike Lee & musical Director of The Family Tree Singers a 21-voice group. The group performed & sang Bill’s original works. As a group The Family Tree Singers sang the music from Spike Lee’s first four movie which Bill wrote. The Family Tree Singers sang & performed shows around New York from 1991 until 1993.

Pierre Relocated to Los Angeles in 1996 & performed solo shows presented by Dolores Petersen @ Comfort Café & Hollywood Studio w/ "D" Empress-aria, L.A. Music Promoter, Producer & Vocalist. At her suggestion, Pierre met Lisa Herbert & Mitch Ellis & formed Chambers, Herbert & Ellis, a vocal trio performing the music of Lambert Hendricks & Ross in vocalese style. Pierre sang tenor & bass parts & did solos regularly.  The group gained popularity & enjoyed a yearlong musical residence at the Gardenia, a West Hollywood Jazz Supper Club & Music Venue owned by Tom Rolla & Bruce Lohman. The group arranged, produced & performed a new show each month. For the length of the residency.

This show is themed around returning to his musical roots & excavating the many gifts & influences they provided him w/. This current musical offering from Pierre is filled w/ music that is near & dear to his heart & will feature a few original works of his father’s Paul Chambers & lyrics written by Pierre performed for the first time.
