Two coaches, Olympic gold-medalist David Walters and silver-medalist Clay Evans, are leading free ocean swim workouts at 6:15 a.m. Thursday mornings and Friday nights monthly off Santa Monica Beach. Our next evening swim is 5:30 p.m. September 9.

David Walters, who won gold in the 4x200 freestyle relay in the 2008 Olympics, is still the fastest American swimmer ever in the 100 free. SCAQ swim club head coach Clay Evans is a two-time Olympian and Silver medalist, as well as the United States Masters swim coach of the year. They both invite avid swimmers and triathletes to join them. Please RSVP at SCAQ@SWIM.net.

Both coaches will talk strategy and methods for dealing with the surf. Participants will then go out and swim anywhere from half a mile to a mile and a half depending upon level. SCAQ Swim Club and California Triathlon are sponsoring the workouts. Check out SWIM.net and Southern California Aquatics for more information about our pool workouts and activities.
