reDiscover Center Set to Begin Summer Tinkering Camps

LOS ANGELES, CA: rediscover Center, the non-profit tool training and maker space for children in their 15th year, announced plans to begin their popular summer tinkering camp program for both in person attendees and at-home tinkerers.

Following the guidelines of LA County’s Department of Public Health and also incorporating both CDC and American Camp Association guidelines, reDiscover Center’s full day, one week, in person camps are for children ages 7-12. The camps will begin when is determined by these groups.

Jonathan Bijur, Director of reDiscover, shared “We understand parents’ concerns with the current situation and are ready to run Tinkering Camp as soon as we are confident in our clearances. We have set up plexiglass dividers between workstations, will be wiping down shared power tools between uses and created individual sets of tools and materials for each camper at our facility.” He continued, “We have sustained reDiscover during the stay-at-home mandate, we’ll be able to continue with our Online Tinkering Camp for socially distant campers. Each camper will get a Tinkering Tool Kit for advanced tinkering with cardboard and recyclables available at home, and will be able to watch continuous video classes and receive one-on-one support to create projects at home.”

Online Tinkering Camp is for ages 9-12 and reDiscover also offers “At Home Tinkering Together” for ages 5-8 with adult supervision.

The in person camp will take place at the main location of reDiscover at 12958 W. Washington Blvd. in Venice but may be opening pop up locations in the area.

Jonathan mentioned, “Throughout the crisis, we've had some families cancel their registrations while others are signing up so we leave it up to the campers’ parents what’s best for them and their children. As always, we welcome them all to the exciting world of making things!”
