Sierra Club Endorses Stephanie Loredo for Culver City Unified School District Governing Board Member

Stephanie Loredo (https://stephanieloredo.com), an advocate for education, sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), today announced she has been endorsed by Sierra Club. Stephanie is a candidate for Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Governing Board Member. Sierra Club (https://www.sierraclub.org) is the most enduring and influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States.

Sierra Club brings people together to build an environmental movement to mitigate global challenges such as a warming climate and pollution. Culver City Unified School District has a large footprint in the city, employing 800 staff and serving 7,000 students daily on multiple campuses. The district's actions have a consequential ecological impact, which requires leadership that will prioritize sustainability and sound environmental practices.

“The Sierra Club's goal is to preserve and protect the environment. Stephanie Loredo has demonstrated her alignment with our mission through her environmental philosophy, positions, and actions," said David Haake, chair of West Los Angeles Group, Sierra Club. "We believe that Stephanie's priorities will have a positive impact on the quality of life in the Culver City school district and its surrounding communities."

Sierra Club defends everyone’s right to a healthy world. Its national community of volunteers, advocates, and grassroots activists make themselves heard in nearly every district in every state across the country. Sierra Club is an organization that works to advance climate solutions and ensure everyone has access to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment. Its impact includes securing protection for 439 parks and monuments, winning passage of the Clean Air and Endangered Species Acts, putting over 281 coal plants on the path to replacement with clean energy, and securing the right of every child in America to visit a national park.

“The Sierra Club has been a champion for people and the environment. My volunteer work in our schools has shown me that we can amplify its movement among our students and staff to build a safer and greener community,” said Stephanie Loredo. “I am honored by the Sierra Club’s recognition of my priorities for environmental issues, social justice, equity, and quality of life in Culver City.”

Stephanie is an active participant and leader in sustainability and mobility efforts in the school district and in the Culver City community at large. These roles include El Rincon Elementary Walk to School Day Chair, Culver City Safe Routes to School Committee, Walk ‘n Rollers 10th Anniversary Planning Committee Volunteer Coordinator, and CCUSD Environmental Sustainability Committee. She has collaborated with stakeholders from local school sites, school board, city council, CCPD and Public Works in Culver City for safe school travel. She is focused on the health and wellbeing of the community and the engagement of stakeholders to be stewards of the Earth.
