Campaign Picks Up Major Endorsements After Successful Wende Museum Fundraiser

Laughter echoed off the walls of the Wende Museum Saturday night as a packed crowd enjoyed two comedians performing at a fundraiser for Daniel Lee’s Culver City Council campaign.

The event also featured rousing speeches by the candidate, and by Culver City Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, who stressed the importance of having Mr. Lee on the Council in order to pass items that are critically important to protecting the people and environment of Culver City.

Lee’s campaign was in high spirits at the fundraiser, having only days before received endorsements from U.S. Representative Karen Bass, and Los Angeles County Board of Trustees President Sydney Kamlager-Dove, adding to the impressive list of local officials who have pledged their support for the campaign, including Council Member Sahli-Wells, Culver City Vice Mayor Thomas Small, former LA City Controller Rick Tuttle, and Culver City School Board Member Dr. Kelly Kent.

The excited throng at the event was captivated by the compelling Cold War artwork and artifacts housed in the expansive new Wende Museum space, adjacent to Vet’s Park on Culver Boulevard. Many in attendance had not yet visited the museum in its new location, and took the opportunity to peruse its substantial collection, which includes a number of pieces lent by the nearby Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum.

Comedian Mario Mabe warmed up the crowd, which was also treated to a hilarious comedy set by rising star Byron Bowers, who has previously appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and can currently be seen in the new Showtime series The Chi. Attendees also savored some delicious food from Culver City’s Yalla Mediterranean restaurant.

After a great run in the last City Council election in 2016, nearly gaining a Council seat in a field of seven candidates, Daniel Lee’s current campaign has been building consistent support and momentum since it began, and is poised for success in the City Council election on April 10th, which would make Mr. Lee the first African-American City Council Member in Culver City’s history.
