Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County Endorses Stephanie Loredo for Culver City Unified School District Governing Board Member

Stephanie Loredo (https://stephanieloredo.com), an advocate for education, sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), today announced she has been endorsed by Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County (ADLAC). Stephanie is a candidate for Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Governing Board Member. ADLAC (https://www.asiandemsla.org) seeks to enhance the growth of the Democratic Party and to support the political development of Asian Democrats across Los Angeles County.

Chartered with the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, ADLAC’s purpose is to elevate the ideas and perspectives of Asian communities who currently do not possess formal representation within the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. This includes supporting political candidates and ballot measures that positively represent and benefit local Asian communities and growing Asian representation within the Democratic Party.

"The Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County are proud to endorse Stephanie Loredo. Stephanie is not only a fierce advocate for Asian students, but for all students,” said Andrew Murphy, president, Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County. “Her deep experience and knowledge are informed by core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that will serve Culver City Unified School District well. In a time of ongoing anti-Asian hate and violence, which includes bullying in schools, Culver City has the historic opportunity to elect the first Filipina American to hold office on LA's Westside."

Stephanie is an advocate for Asian American and its intersectional communities. She recently co-authored CCUSD’s Filipino American History Month 2022 Resolution. Her service for Culver City schools encompass organizing with the Culver City High School Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Parent Affinity Organization (as founder), the CCUSD Equity Advisory Council, the Culver City Middle School Parent Teacher & Student Association Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and as an El Rincon Elementary volunteer for AAPI Heritage Month Filipino American cultural assemblies. As a student at the University of Pennsylvania, she was an alpha Kappa Delta Phi Asian-interest sorority alumna, advocating for the empowerment of women of Asian descent.

“Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County has been supporting pioneers and leaders in our community. Its endorsement of my campaign hardens my resolve to empower marginalized voices and remove barriers to participation to give diverse communities opportunities for a seat at the table,” said Stephanie Loredo. “Representation matters, especially when only 4 percent of California school board members are of Asian descent while the Asian student population in K-12 is at least 12 percent in our state’s public schools. I want to foster an environment where youth from all backgrounds can envision their futures as leaders, achievers and builders.”

Stephanie’s vision for public schools is gaining visibility and trust with organizations and regional leaders that support diverse communities. Additional endorsements from the Asian American community include Pilipino American Los Angeles Democrats, Artesia Mayor Melissa Ramoso, Cerritos Councilmember Frank Yokoyama, Sierra Madre Councilmember Rachelle Arizmendi and former Cerritos Mayor Mark Pulido.

Public schools are foundational to thriving, healthy communities. On the Culver City school board, Stephanie is committed to unifying the students, families and staff of our school district in celebrating the richness of diverse communities and normalizing a culture that is protective of marginalized communities from bias and hate. She believes that when students and staff participate in nurturing school climates with resources to be the best version of themselves, they will elevate their communities and develop into future leaders that advance policies that work for all.
