The Los Angeles Times recently highlighted two Culver City galleries openings this Saturday, April 23: those at Kapeikin Gallery & Luis De Jesus Los Angeles.

Here's what Times writer Carolina A. Miranda said about Amy Park's “Ed Ruscha’s Every Building on the Sunset Strip,” at Kopeikin Gallery:

Park takes Ruscha’s iconic 1966 photo book, which documented every building on West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, and re-creates it as a series of watercolor paintings — a 97-foot immersive environment that wraps the gallery and therefore the viewer. It’s a new way of seeing a familiar Los Angeles work. Opens Saturday at 6 p.m. and runs through June 4. 

And about Margie Livingston's "Holding It Together,” at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles:

Livingston doesn’t make paintings; she makes “paint objects” — canvases wrapped in acrylic paint skin that she straps to her body, then drags through the city’s streets. Part penance, part performance, these actions leave behind a work that is as much a wall hanging as it is evidence of something darkly destructive.

Both openings begin at 6 and are, as always, free and open to the public (not to mention quite a lot of fun). Kopeikin Gallery is located at 2766 S. La Cienega Blvd., and Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is located at 2685 S. La Cienega Blvd. 

The article also highlights a couple of shows in Culver City that are ongoing: 

Julian Schnabel, “Infinity on Trial,” at Blum & Poe. The bad boy of ‘80s neo-expressionism is back in Los Angeles with a solo show for the first time in almost a decade. The exhibition gathers works from the mid-1970s to the present, including some of the ceramic shard collages for which he is best known.

And:

Daniel Joseph Martinez, “If You Drink Hemlock, I Shall Drink It With You…” at Roberts & Tilton. A hallucinatory environmental installation by the L.A.-based artist takes on Jacques-Louis David’s seminal French revolutionary painting “The Death of Marat” as a point of inspiration.s

Blum & Poe is located at 2727 S. La Cienega Blvd. and Roberts and Tilton is at 5801 Washington Blvd.
