A Stunning Look at "Mud Lake Culver City" in the 1950s

Appropriate for the 4th of July: Fun in the sun at 'Mud Lake in Culver City', circa 1957.

Uploader 'cgds' explains: "Water skiing at Mud Lake. This is in the same area where the Marina is today. Taken maybe around 1957, the first skier to come to shore is my brother, Dean, and the close up shot is of Mike Sanders. Dick Ireland's family has one of the boats. The white and green boat was ours and the guy sitting in the chair while skiing was always there. We had lots of fun at Mud lake but I bet it was very contaminated being surrounded by oil wells. Or maybe not?"

Soulbeckett, a commenter on the video, adds:

I remember this lake. Channel 5 used to show races here in the early fifties. I used to go swimming here, or wading as I was very young. Hoppyland and the stables were close by as was a small Midget ace car track. I could disappear in the wetlands behind there and not see another human all day.
