What is fracking? Why do oil companies use the practice? Does it have a negative impact on the environment? Has fracking been used in the Baldwin Hills, and, if so, where exactly? Can this affect our health? The California State Department of Conservation will host a workshop to discuss the practice of hydraulic fracturing for production stimulation, commonly called fracking, in the Culver City City Council Chambers from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12. After the presentation, the department will welcome public comment, so come voice your opinion! This workshop is one of several being conducted as part of a comprehensive information-gathering process aimed at the development of regulations governing hydraulic fracturing. It will begin with an overview of oil and gas production in California, including discussion of California’s geologic formations where oil and natural gas are found. Existing well construction requirements and what those regulations protect against will follow. The Culver City Council Chambers are located in City Hall at 9770 Culver Boulevard. |
