Culver City PTA To Host 'Yes on Prop 38' Rally Monday

The Culver City PTA will host a rally on Monday, October 8th, at 5:00 pm, to show their support for Proposition 38, an initiative on the ballot this November that will secure tens of millions of dollars in funding for local schools.

The event, taking place at Veterans Memorial Park, will feature speakers including PTA members, local teachers, parents, and community leaders. According to the Culver City PTA, Proposition 38 would bring more than $6 million to Culver City Unified School District schools by 2013-14, and more than $14 million by 2023-24. This money could be used to reduce class sizes, restore art, music, math, and science programs, and provide technical education and college preparation for local students.

Proposition 38 is on the November 6, 2012 ballot in California as an initiated state statute. If enacted, Proposition 38 will:

  • Increase state income tax rates for most Californians, resulting in increased revenues to the state of about $10 billion a year.
  • The state income tax increase would end after 12 years, unless voters reauthorize it.
  • Earmark most of the new revenue of $10 billion for public school districts and early childhood development programs.

If you plan to vote yes on Prop 38, you should definitely show up to support it. A recent USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Tiems polly showed that just 34 percent of registered voters plan to vote for Proposition 38, while 52 percent oppose it.

Veterans Memorial Park is located at 4117 Overland Avenue,
