The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
According to a Facebook update from the Culver City Rock & Mineral Club, which shares the Culver City Scout House at Veterans Park with the Boy Scouts of America, the building that both groups use for meetings will soon get a much-need renovation:
As you have probably heard, the CCRMC and The Boy Scouts have finally negotiated a lease from the city of Culver City. Because of this, both organizations have begun the renovation of the joint building. This includes, but is not limited to: Roof replacement; hazardous materials removal and/or encapsulation; vector removal; ADA compliance; etc..
This work should be completed within the next few months, and might pose a temporary inconvenience to those who use our shop, during that time. Please watch the Club Web Sitewww.culvercityrocks.org and this Club Forum for updates and temporary shop closures.
Yesterday morning, locked, gated, chain link fences were installed, across the front and rear of the property. On the days the shop is open, the "Shop Instructor" will unlock, and open both gates for member access. During this time, only the "Shop Instructor" will be able to park in the back of the building. All other members should park in the lot in front of the "Scout Hut", and enter the property through the ftont gate.
If you have questions, or need help getting onto the property, you can call the shop (310)836-4611 during Shop Hours.
The picture above shows the Scout House circa November 2011. You can see the tarp covering the roof, presumably to protect the building from roof leaks during the rainy season.
