IndieCade 2013, an international festival of independent video games, is coming to downtown Culver City on October 5th and 6th. It's big news in the videogame world, but even if you have only a passing interest in videogames, you can have some real fun at the event.

You can participate for free in a couple of different ways.

First, the festival organizers have sifted through more than 400 independent video game entries to select the best games. This year's nominees can be seen here. These independently created games -- as well as award-winning game from years past -- are available for you to play for free on Saturday, October 5, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Sunday, October 6, from 12:00 am to 5:00 pm. at Fire Station One @ 9600 Culver Blvd.

Tthe Indiecade festival also offers Big Games -- outdoor physical multiplayer games that are simply too big to be played sitting down. In the past, games have included city-wide zombie tag, a twister racing games, mad hatter tea parties, paper mache pigeons pummeled with wiffleball bats, a virtual putt-putt course, paparazzi, subtle mobs, and more. Here are the Big Games offered this year. IndieCade's Official Selection Big games will run 10 am - 7 pm Saturday, October 5th, and 10 am - 5 pm Sunday, October 6th.

On the night of October 5th, starting at 7:00, Indiecade also offers Night Games, "a carnival of avant-garde game play compressed into a celebratory diamond of flashing lights, loud music, and gameplay." Here is the schedule. The cost is $15.
