The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival will perform at the Ivy Substation in Culver City on Wednesday, March 28, at 8 p.m. The theme of the evening is “ENCORE!,” a reference to the Festival’s return to Culver City and also to its welcoming favorite performers from previous editions of the Festival. Tickets for the performance are $20 in advance, or for two tickets or more each at the door, or $25 at the door for single tickets.
This performance was made possible by a $1,875 performing arts grant award from Culver City.
The evening will include:
Taffy Wallace in Next Exit, Beautiful Life (theatre). A personal journey growing up in Compton, moving to Beverly Hills and coming full circle back to Compton. This piece focuses on identity and self-acceptance.
Sheetal Gandhi in Bahu-Beti-Biwi (“Daughter-in-law, Daughter, Wife”)(dance/theatre): A solo tour de force combining dance, stirring vocalization and percussive text that glides between humorous portraiture and active resistance.
The Lindz in WASP (performance poetry): This poet contributes relationship-related, socially conscious, goofy, insightful, sardonic and riotous performance poetry.
Dina Morrone in The Italian in Me (theatre): Dina takes the audience on her roller coaster ride to her motherland of Italy, where she tries to find a career as an actor in a foreign country and that includes her interview with Federico Fellini.
Cynthia Ling Lee in Fish Hook Tongue (dance): In this dance piece, Taiwan’s history of linguistic colonization reveals itself through poetic storytelling, garbled soundscapes, and movement vocabulary of evocative gestures, full-bodied lushness and painful brokenness.
Reservations can be made at (818) 760-0408. Online reservations are available here.
The Ivy Substation is located at 9070 Venice Blvd.
