Participate in Coastal Clean-up Day at Ballona Creek in Culver City this Saturday

The Ballona Creek Cleanup is Culver City's contribution to Coastal Cleanup Day -- this Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. till noon.

To participate, just show up at one of these locations:

  • Syd Kronenthal Park (at the bike path entrance) Host: Echo Horizon School
  • Duquesne Avenue (north of Culver City Transportation Building) Host: Culver City Bike Coalition
  • Overland Avenue (Behind the Julian Dixon Library) Host: Ballona Creek Renaissance
  • Sepulveda Boulevard (on Bike/Creek path entrance) Host: Kiwanis Los Angeles
  • Hetzler Road and Jefferson Boulevard (below Baldwin Hills Overlook) Host: Culver City EPO and Heal the Bay

In previous years more than 500 Culver City volunteers have shown up for Coastal Cleanup Day -- with some helping for an hour or so and others staying through the entire event until noon. If you come out, you'll to join more than 15,000 volunteers gathering at 70 different sites all over Los Angeles County to help rid our beaches and inland waterways of trash and debris. Coastal Cleanup Day is an international event, with about 60 countries around the world participating.

Organizers urge you to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, hats, and sunglasses – and to bring a water bottle. Bring your own reusable buckets and gloves to collect trash if you can; the city will provide items for those that can’t bring their own.

Organizers also ask that you bring with you a signed waiver that you can find HERE, if you can.  If not, copies will be available for signature. Those under the age of 18 require parental signatures to participate
