The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Shoes for the Homeless -- a non-profit organization founded by local podiatrist Ira Diamond that provides "gently used" and new shoes free of charge to the homeless -- has organized one of its semi-regular "shoe processing" date for this Saturday, May 17th from 3-4 pm. They could really use help with this task and are requesting volunteers. The shoe processing will take place at 4123 Jackson Avenue in Culver City.
Call 213-309-4084 or email diamondline@earthlink.net to get more information about the organization -- and to get the e-mail-able liability release form. Kids will be eligible for 1 hour of community service.
The organization's vision goes like this: "Homeless men, women and children in our local communities are in great need of shoes. It is our vision and goal to help these individuals by providing them with a good pair of shoes. Since walking is often the only mode of transportation for the homeless, proper fitting shoes that offer adequate support are vitally important. Shoes provide both comfort as well as foot protection."
