If the continuing viability of the Culver City Ice Arena is of interest to you, mark April 22 on your calendar. On that date, the Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission will be holding a special meeting to discuss designating the rink a "Cultural Resource" and a candidate for historical preservation. The special meeting will take place at 7:00 pm in the Culver City Council Chambers at 9770 Culver Boulevard.
Culver City's Historic Preservation Program was established by ordinance in 1991. The ordinance added language to the city's municipal code providing for the designation and preservation of structures within the city as Cultural Resources because of their architectural, historical, and/or cultural importance. You can read the ordinance, which enumerates the qualifications for such a designation as well as the restrictions once the designation has been made, HERE.
On January 31, 2014, the City of Culver City received a nomination for the Culver City Ice Arena, located at 4545 Sepulveda Blvd., for designation as a Cultural Resource. Pursuant to Culver City Municipal Code (CCMC) Section 15.05.015, a historic resource evaluation for the site has been prepared and will be considered at the special meeting.
