The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
These are the new and old sounds coming from my corner of Culver City. What have you been listening to?
It's been too long time since we've heard from Kim Deal; the last Breeders album, Mountain Battles, came out in 2008. Now, apropos of nothing in particular, she's released two new solo tracks -- an instrumental and this spare slow-burner that pits Deal's serene voice against a tightly wound bass line and couple of spiky guitar solos.
And here's another track full of flashback sounds: it has the sweet pop of Teenage Fanclub, a solo right out of Dinosaur Jr., and the brevity of Guided By Voices (the whole beautiful thing is over in a minute and a half). The artist is Tony Molina, and the name of his upcoming album is Dissed and Dismissed, so you probably would be too far off if you heard some Pavement in there too.
