The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Every other friday, I'll post a picture of something in Culver City that is 'hiding in plain sight.'
This time, the question is: Do you know where in Culver CIty this figure who exhorts us to "Start your adventure today" is? If you know, enter your response in the comments box of this post! I'll reveal the answer in two Fridays, when I post a new game.
Last time, I posted this smiling face:
'Where Am I in Culver City? Game 020' received a record number of responses, but it was Culver City Times member Charles Deen who first posted the correct answer in the comments section of the post. Well, at any rate, he proved he knew quite a bit about the statue of which this was detail: "That is Lillian Culver who is holding her daughter Patricia and looking as Harry H. Culver reading a newspaper article about the 1917 founding of the City of Culver City." He's right, of course, but let me add that we're talking about the statue, "A Moment in Time" by De L'Esprie, located just to the east of the Culver Hotel. I thought maybe Charles would guess it, since he had just posted a picture of Mayor O'Leary posting with the statue.
Cindi Kauffman also answered correctly on Culver City Time's facebook page. And both Culver City Times member Vicki Daly Redholtz (on Facebook) and Culver City Times member Evlynne Braithwaite Householder (in her own post), guessed "outside the Senior Center." This was a great guess because, as Charles pointed out, both this statue and "Path of Life," outside the Culver City Senior Center, are by the same artist: De L'Esprie.
Here's one more fascinating fact: Culver City Times member Christopher Buckley Wilde says on his member page that his mother is Patricia, the baby in the sculpture! Amazing, right?!!
Congratulations to Charles Deen and thanks to everyone who responded!
Here are some pictures that show more of the sculpture:
Says the Culver CIty website about this sculture:
Harry Culver is reading a special edition of the Culver City Call, dated September 21, 1917, the day after Culver City became incorporated. The newspaper has articles commemorating the incorporation of the city, as well as advertisements and announcements. The adjacent plaque provides details of Harry Culver's many accomplishments, including the construction of the Landmark designated Culver Hotel (also listed on the National Register of Historic Places).
Here's a close-up of the paper:

Good Morning Scupine,
Thank. I do like a challenge with a scuba guess applied via google. Someone center-minded could still beat me. I morphed Eco Station into my answer.

You got it!! Man, you're good. Two in a row!
Scupine -
Would that be the Eco Dive Station at 4027 Sepulveda Blvd?
Regards - Charles
