The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Every other Friday, I post a picture of something in Culver City that is 'hiding in plain sight.' Last week I asked: Do you know where in Culver City this colorful mural is?
No one correctly identified the image. In fact, it graces the side of my favorite Brazilian food restaurant in Culver City, Cafe Brazil. It's located in West Culver CIty at 11736 Washington Blvd.
Amazing food. I recommend the California Chicken or the Vegetarian Plate -- both come marinated with Brazilian spices, with white rice, black beans, salsa, spicy black bean soup, and fried plantain.
Co-owners Aparecida and Marcelino Filho opened Cafe Brazil in January of 1991. According to the restaurant's website, Marcelino completed his studies at Senac, the culinary school of Sao Paulo. Later he was a hospitality instructor for several well-known hotels in Rio De Janeiro and Sao Paulo such as The Meridian, Rio Palace, and Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema. Later in Los Angeles, he worked at the Ivy, Campanile and the Softel Hotel. Marcelino also lived in France, where he studied wine and French cuisine.

Aw, man! I only had two guesses for this one, the second of which was Cafe Brazil. Although I'd never actually seen the mural, the tropical theme and multi-colored homes reminded me of a Brazilian landscape, so I thought it had to be on one of those restaurants. I dunno why I didn't post my guess, though. Ah well. On to the next game!
