The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Periodically, I post a picture of something in Culver City that is 'hiding in plain sight.' Last week I asked: Do you know where in Culver City this doggie is?
Three sharp-eyed Culver City Times members -- including Jill S. Thomsen (firsties), the ever-faithful Doug Lemon, and new member and first-time entrant Lisa Vosburgh -- correctly identified the canine as guarding the northern-most corner of Adopt & Shop at Sepulveda and Culver Blvd. Adopt & Shop is "a nonprofit pet retail store that offers pet adoption, dog daycare, dog grooming, dog training, and a complete line of quality and unique products to support happy and health pets."
Jill S. Thomsen added:
"They have a great volunteer program with orientations coming up Sunday, September 7th 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 17th 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.. Details here: http://www.foundanimals.org/get-involved/volunteer
Jill's right! My 15-year-old daughter has been participating in this program over the summer, and she absolutely loves it. And I've been consistently impressed by her stories about working there -- about the respect they have (and teach) for the dogs and cats, and about the care they take with each one. And they seem to be having a lot of success: she says that each week she picks a favorite dog, and when she returns the following week, it's been adopted. She sounded a bit sad, but she knew it was a good thing.
