The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
In March, I reported that the Annenberg Foundation has proposed to build a $50 million interpretive center and make other improvements in Area C of the Ballona Wetlands -- an area adjacent to Culver City and of great importance to residents of the city. Of course, the question is: is Annenberg's proposal the right thing to do with this land?
But it occurs to me that there were many others to ask before we can properly answer the first:
What is currently in Area C? What does the land mean to the community? Is Area C currently healthy? Will the Annenberg Foundation's proposal make the area more healthy or less? Is leaving the land the way it is the best thing and is that even an option? What improvements could Area C use? What options are available to bring about the necessary or potential improvements? What exactly is the Annenberg Foundation proposing?
I'm going to try to answer these questions and more over a multi-post story in the next couple of weeks, but to begin I thought I'd offer a purely visual tour of the land. Here's where Area C is:
