The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Los Angeles-based artist Kristian Burford makes life-size, hyperrealistic sculptures -- often of figures enacting shadowy narratives within Burford's immersive ‘sets’. Last year, Nye + Brown offered a particularly creepy example of Burford's work -- one that insisted the viewer peek into dimly lit a hotel room containing a nude figure with his back turned. It put the view in the uncomfortable position of wanting to see what's in there -- to see what that figure was doing -- but afraid of what we'd find. The photo above is from that work.
Burford's new piece is called Audition, and it's set within an office cubicle environment. It's a must-see. The opening reception is this Saturday, September 28, from 6 to 8; as always, it's free, and the public is most welcome.
Nye + Brown is located at 2685 S. La Cienega.
