According to the latest bi-weekly update that the City Manager gives to the Culver City Council, plans have been submitted that may bring a BevMo! to 5640 Sepulveda Boulevard -- directly across Slauson from the Westfiled Culver City Mall. Good news for local fans of fine wine, microbrews, gourmet food, and, you know, booze. Plus, most BevMo! stores offer fun stuff like weekly beer and wine tastings, etc., so stay tuned.

UPDATE: A Culver CIty Times member just left a comment (and then deleted it?) saying that, if passed, this would involve the closing and demolition of Shakey's Pizza. How do we feel about this?

Thanks to everyone for their comments. It really helped me (and others who read this article) understand that people care about what businesses come into their community.

For my part, I can't really see how this is an example of the city not caring what the resident's want. If Shakey's was providing what the people wanted, it would be full of customers, and there would be no question of closing it. If people don't go to BevMo, they'll be gone before too long, too. I'm not sure "the city" enters into this equation.

How many more liquor establishments does one need?  Pavilions, CVS, Sprouts, The warehouse down on McConnell/Culver, Ralphs.

If this is true, it wouldn't be about CC not caring about what the residents want; it would mean that BevMo needed to create more parking for its business.  The owner of a private property can and should be able to do what they want with it, as long as it doesn't violate business, building, zoning or safety codes.

Plus, while I have kids and have enjoyed Shakey's many times with my family, to assume that the residents as a whole would prefer a Shakey's to a BevMo is, well, presumptuous.

Figures...Culver City is looking for the $$$ and doesn't give a rat's ass about what residents want

Well I love the Shakey's Sign and Name. But I've never been to this one because all the others I've visited have not been some place I'd return to.
