Chego Named Best "Dive" Restaurant in the Nation

Yesterday, George Aquino of mlive.com named Chego the nation's "Best Dive." Executive chef Roy Choi's restaurant is located in a strip mall at 3300 Overland Ave. -- technically in Palms, probably, but who's counting. Calling the place "pork belly nirvana," the article continues:

The menu caters to the Asian palate with the triumvirate of godly Asian delights — rice, egg and meat. Anything with a fried egg on top is always good. My favorite, though, is the One Chubby Pork Belly — perfectly charred with just enough spice to make you want more.

It's hard to disagree. If you haven't tried Chego's spicy, psychedelic rice bowls, you should. It's nothing fancy. Just a counter where you choose from a small selection of appetizers and rice bowls.

I second Aquino's shout-out to the pork belly, and if you order the Ooey Gooey Fries as a starter, you won't be sorry.

While you're there, check out Kathyn McFarlane's trippy bathroom mural:
