The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
If you pass the corner of Washington and National all the time, it can seem as if the progress of the new Culver City Metro station has been glacial. That's why it's worth celebrating that the Expo Construction Authority has recently installed our very own "Culver City" Metro Stop sign.
More evidence of progress on this property is the cleared-out space behind the sign. A month ago, that was filled with earth-moving equipment and piles of gravel and refuse. Today, it's flat and bare, ready for the immanent new construction.
As you may remember, at the beginning of February, the Culver City Council unanimously approved a commitment letter with developer Lowe Enterprises to develop this property, which, according to the agreement will “include a mix of housing, office, retail and restaurant use surrounding a large central open space amenity and connect seamlessly with the new station and the emerging Washington National Transit Oriented Development District with public plazas, outdoor dining and a strong retail edge to encourage pedestrian activity.” According to Lowe's submission, the 5.2 acre property will be one-third open space and hold more than 1,500 parking spaces.
