Street Artists How & Nosm Paint the L.A. Weekly Building in Culver City

Spanish-born, Germany-reared artists How & Nosm (real names Raoul and Davide Perre) are responsible for the vivid and detailed new facade of the Culver City headquarters of LA Weekly. The piece took about a week to complete. Here's a couple shots of it in progress.

As the LA Weekly described the piece: "The concept is, loosely, 'messages in a bottle,' representing perhaps those the newspaper delivers every week, yet conveyed via familiar surrealist How & Nosm imagery: fish, hands, faces, hearts and brains, plus secret visuals we may never decipher....The final work is a series of colorful bottles, some of which incorporate the windows of the building....The bottles are floating in a background that morphs from pink and red diamond shapes on the left side of the piece to organic gray waves meant to signify the L.A. River on the right."

Here are some pictures I took on February 11, while the work was in progress.

And a great picture of the two brothers, taken right across the street from their new work, from the blog Daily du Jour.

Here's another piece by the same artists (taken from the artists' web site), so you can get a feel for their style.

The new piece covered Graffiti Crossword, painted by street artist Eine. But it's OK. In an interview with the LA Weekly published in April of 2011 -- about the Graffiti Crossword was painted -- Eine had this to say about the expected longevity of his work, "It's weird, kind of everything I ever paint has been painted over, so I've definitely seen it for the last time! I'm not precious about my artwork. If some other graffiti artist comes by and they're looking for something to paint, I wouldn't care. I've got my photo. That's what lives forever."

Fabulous. Thank you for the reporting. I would have taken a pic except the angle from my car was always so bad!
