Culver City issued layoff notices to 14 full-time employees last week. The 14 employees, who hold positions with the city that were supported by former Redevelopment Agency revenues, will be offered open positions in other departments or an option of a severance payment of up to 12 weeks of paid leave based upon years of service with the city. The elimination of the the positions will save the city approximately $2.3 million annually.
Despite eliminating 67 positions since 2009 and reducing operating costs in all non public safety departments, the dissolution of the Culver City Redevelopment Agency by the State of California on February 1, 2012, added $6 to $8 million to the projected $3 million deficit for the city’s fiscal year that ends on June 20, 2012.
To close that gap, it is expected that City Manager John Nachbar’s proposed budget for the upcoming year – which he will present to the City Council and Culver City community on May 7, 2012 – will include the elimination of more than 20 positions. Still, Nachbar warns, “a multi-million dollar operational deficit will remain.“
The city has seen its General Fund revenues decline by nearly 10 percent from their highs in the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

You can see the 2009 salary schedule online. Scroll down to the Redevelopment positions. There are five tiers within the three different categories serving the Redevelopment Agency. Top paid tiers of the three categories are as follows per annum: Administrator, $142K; Project Manager, $111K; Project Specialist, $89K.
But let's also make sure that we talk about City Manager, John Nachbar's annual salary. In his position, the lowest tier receives $190K and the top tier receives $233K.
SOMETHING STINKS HERE. $2,300,000 DIVIDED BY 14 = $164,285.71 A YEAR.....WHAT ?!!!!!!!!!
Is it possible that all 14 worked for the city's redevelopment agency itself?
The Culver City web site lists seven employees of the agency by name:

Do we know exactly what positions and who was laid off?
