The Expo Line opened to LaCienega Boulevard over the weekend, with much well-deserved fanfare and excitement. The Culver City station is expected to open over the summer, but in the meantime, there are 476 free parking spaces at the La Cienega Station, and the city has increased the number of buses that will run out to the West LA Transit Center (a short additional bus ride to the La Cienega Station).
I read this blog post about the opening of the Expo Line, and thought it expressed well the excitement the Expo Line brings with it. Eddie North-Hager, the publisher of Culver City Times, wrote the post and edited the video. He lives in Leimert Park and runs the Leimert Park Beat.
"Downtown Culver City will be even closer by the end of summer. USC is just minutes away. Downtown Los Angeles with no parking hassles. And then connect to lines that can take you to Los Angeles, Pasadena, Long Beach, Hollywood.
60 years after the commuter trains left Leimert Park and the Expo tracks, Saturday was all aboard time once again.
And beyond where we can go and what we can see, the Expo Line also gives millions of people access to the amenities of our neighborhood - Leimert Park Village, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, Earlez Grille, and all the secondary and tertiary local stores that could benefit from outside patrons.
It's nice to be connected."
